We are currently updating the imagery to allow for the higher resolution screens of the iPhone4 and iPad. Additional entries will also be added.

Version 1.1 is being readied

Version 1.1 includes a few under the bonnet changes, as well as a little background on proof marks and Gutenberg. We should be submitting this in the next week or so.

We have just heard that ProofReader will start appearing on the AppStores around the world from today. If our other apps are anything to go by, New Zealand is likely to be first.

Version 1.0 submitted to Apple

We are pleased to announce that the initial version of the app is now with Apple. This includes over 40 entries that cover deletion, insertion, text and font markups. Each entry includes a basic description, text-based markup example, a primary markup symbol and an alternative, if one exists. These will be refined and update in due course, with additional entries added in the coming weeks.

An info window also gives you access to our app-related website with the latest details.

As we work our way through the many variations of the proof reader’s symbols list, both UK, US and internationally, we find more than one person’s interpretation of the core symbol. There are standards for these marks, but the actual marks take on a slightly different shape or use, depending on the country or industry.

The first version of ProofReader will supply only the core symbols and descriptions, which will give us a little time to research the alternatives. It’s important that we present the correct details initially, and then apply any corrections or updates after that.
